Overview
alkasir is a software program that allows users to circumvent censorship of some blocked websites (see FAQ
). Once you run the program, you will be able to browse blocked websites that were filtered because of their political or informational content. alkasir does not unblock websites, but rather creates a tunnel to a third destination and channels data through that tunnel so you could browse it as if it were open.
It was established help broaden the sources of information available to citizens and limit governmental control over information available on the World Wide Web.
The software also has the ability to track censorship of specific websites and periodically verify if any of the blocked websites was unblocked. With this, it is able to measure the trends of Internet filtering in a practical way.
