Changing and viewing options and circumvention settings

There are a few options that alkasir offers in its current version as shown in the below popup window that appears after clicking 'Options / Circumvention Settings' on the main interface window:


Start with windows
The option ( Automatically start alkasir with Windows ) is to have alkasir run automatically with Window's startup and this the case by default.

Program updates
The other option ( Check for updates on program start ) is to have alkasir check for program updates (new version releases) every time the program starts. This is the default and it is highly recommended to keep it that way.

Listening port
There is also an option to change the local port the program uses to listen for incoming socket connections. Occasionally, there may be a conflict of ports because another program may already be using that specific port. So it is possible to use an alternative port in such circumstances.

Periodic updates of blocked status
The program also checks if websites that are signalled as blocked have become unblocked. This is useful because if a website is unblocked, it reduces the burden on the network and allows you to browse it quicker. The default period is to check those websites daily but it can be done weekly, monthly or even never at all. Note however that not checking if a websites is not blocked any more doesn't mean that it will not be lifted from the blocked list once it is found to be unblocked because any user who has this option on by default will trigger the server to remove the blocked website regardless if you have it on or off.

Service Provider
The program relies in tunnelling on at least one service provider, which basically provides the hardware resources to make the tunnelling process happen, and hence allowing you to bypass the ban. The more service providers there are, the more likely blocked websites will be accessibe and the faster the speeds of transfers will be because there could be a lighter load on each service provider. You can check if there are new service providers every once in a while by checking the Options link as described above.

Re-initialize Browser Settings
Note that alkasir has to change the proxy settings of browsers in order to work. That is why it warns you upon installation to close the browsers before proceeding. If for any reason, the old proxy settings get altered, it is possible through this feature to reset the proxy settings for alkasir to operate. Note that the browsers need to be closed before re-initialization could take place.
